Four men loot Rs 1 crore jewellery, Rs 6 lakh cash from gramya bank in Odisha

Four masked men held employees of Odisha Gramya Bank hostage and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 1 crore apart from Rs 6 lakh cash at gunpoint on Thursday, police said. Police have launched a manhunt.

ANGUL: Four masked men held employees of Odisha Gramya Bank hostage and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 1 crore apart from Rs 6 lakh cash at gunpoint on Thursday, police said. Police have launched a manhunt.
Superintendent of police (Dhenkanal) Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra said about four masked men wearing helmets entered the bank during lunch time through its unguarded front door around 2 pm.

The bank manager and another bank staff out of six staff were absent then.
Police sources said while two accused waited outside the bank while the other two pulled out their guns and asked all those present in the main room to move to a corner. They held the four staff hostage. Mohapatra said, "We are checking the CCTV installed in the bank to see if any of these dacoits visited the bank earlier," he said.
Some months back, there was a snatching incident in front of Lodhani Gramya Bank in which the miscreants snatched Rs 15 lakh from a old man who had withdrawn the cash from the bank.
